Pep Guardiola is set to carefully manage the minutes of his South American players at Wembley, with several members of his squad having only recently returned from the Copa America.

A large portion of the Premier League champions’s first-team roster is made up of players who have been on international duty this summer.

Ederson, Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho were all part of the victorious Brazil side that lifted the trophy in Rio de Janeiro, with the latter having carried a knee injury throughout the tournament.

Meanwhile, Sergio Aguero and Nicolas Otamendi have also recently returned to training following their obligations with Argentina and are short of match practice.

Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez is another who is unlikely to start at Wembley, with the Desert Foxes having triumphed at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

City have been in fine form without their international stars, winning three out of four pre-season fixtures and scoring 13 goals in the process.

Guardiola named a strong starting XI last time out in the 3-1 win over Yokohama and could field an identical line up against Liverpool.

If so, Claudio Bravo will continue to deputise for Ederson in goal while Kyle Walker, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Oleksandr Zinchenko will make up the back four.

Summer signing Rodri will take Fernandinho’s customary spot at the base of the midfield, with the Spaniard joined by Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva.

Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden offer alternatives for City, with Guardiola having described the latter as the most talented player he has ever seen.

So many midfield options will see Bernardo Silva push forward onto the right wing while Leroy Sane should get the nod on the opposite flank, despite being linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

Raheem Sterling has led the line this summer, scoring four goals on tour, and will do so again but should move out wide when Aguero returns against West Ham.
