The Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates are scheduled to meet in the 2019 Little League Classic, Major League Baseball announced Sunday night.
The Aug. 18 game next year in Williamsport, Pa., will be the third in the event. The New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies squared off Sunday night at the home of the Little League World Series. The Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals met there in 2017.
“The MLB Little League Classic has been a fun summer highlight for baseball the past two years,” commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. “We are thrilled to give both the Major League players and Little Leaguers another opportunity in 2019 to have the direct personal interaction that strengthens and inspires a lifelong passion for our game.”
The Pirates and Cubs will meet at BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
Little League teams from around the world will attend the contest as part of the Little League World Series.
