A 10-year-old Melbourne boy remains in hospital fighting for life after being hit by a van in the city’s east.
The boy, from Croydon, was struck while using the pedestrian crossing on Springfield Road at Blackburn with his sister, 6, and a friend, 10, on Saturday night. He was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.
The driver of the Toyota HiAce van, a 45-year-old man from Blackburn North, stopped at the scene and was arrested before being released pending further inquiries.
The two other children were not injured. Police told the Herald Sun they were able to get out of the way of the van.
Police will interview the children and another witness before determining whether the man will face charges. They are calling for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them.
